Mindfulness is a practice, derived from Buddhist meditation. Practitioners often find that it enhances their life by increasing peace of mind and well-being.
It has been extensively studied and used in the treatment of stress, anxiety and depression - both on its own and in conjunction with CBT. There is a growing evidence base for the effectiveness of Mindfulness practice in these areas, and indeed in the treatment of chronic pain. It is an attentional training practice with no religious or spiritual elements and is therefore compatible with most religious belief and none.
Mindfulness is a practice - and that means to be effective it should be practiced and become part of life’s routine. It is suitable for everybody, however though those who feel they may have acute psychological issues should consult a qualified person before embarking on a Mindfulness training course. (Geof Talbot is such a person and will be happy to consider any issues with you).
The ‘Introduction to Mindfulness’ training course which we offer is a six session course which teaches the fundamental practices of Mindfulness and provides a forum and support group for those undertaking it. It is restricted to 12 participants per course so that each may gain the greatest benefit both from the training and the group.. It is possible to learn Mindfulness practice from books, but the sharing with others may deepen and embed the experience for you.
